Hotel/hostel in Nha Trang?

Files under Nha Trang | 3 Comments

My friend and I are going to Nha Trang to relax and have a few drinks in the sun. Any suggestions for a good hotel/hostel? Price between 10 and 20 usd for single rooms.

My wife and I stay at 62 Tran Phu. We were there last week. Its nothing flash but its on the beach and close to everything. $10-$15 a night but you could probably negotiate a cheaper rate if you stay awhile. Email Nguyen Thi Tuyet at… pbc62@dng.vnn.vn

where can I watch the upcoming SuperBowl in Ho Chi Minh city?

We will be in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam on Feb, 2010. Are we able to watch the SuperBowl there? What channels or where? I heard AFN broadcast the game, but I don’t know if we can watch the AFN in Vietnam. Thanks.
Well, this is not a movie; it’s the final football game between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints. Thank you.

i found it on this website free & with no surveys

halong bay: package from hanoi or solo?

Files under Halong | 4 Comments

i am in hanoi at the moment at this backpacker hostel called the drift. they offer a package tour for one night and 2 days in halong bay, although i am told i will only be on the boat for 24 hours. their price is $68, which i am told is quite decent, but someone mentioned that it would be cheaper to jump on a bus and head over there, then book on a tour from the bay.
thoughts?
has anyone done this before and has tips or recommendations?
cheers

To get the package from agent is the cheapest. You can come to the street and bargain with the travel agent on the streets. They may give you better price. Remmember to bargain and bargain as there are so many agents, so they must compete with each others.

If you want to do it solo, it’s quite hard as you have to move by yourself to the bus stationa, and move from bus station in Halong to the wharf, where you may not rent the junk and the price may be very high as they know you must rent from them. So, all this will take your time and mind (it’s not like a vacation for you any more).

Take the right choice!

How many hours does it take to go from Saigon to Nha Trang by train?

Files under Nha Trang | 4 Comments

I am travelling a number of trips by train and want to know how many hours each one takes:
1. From Saigon to Nha Trang.
2. From Nha Trang to Danang.
3. From Danang to Hue.

Also, can someone please give me the website for the Vietnam Railways where I can get train timetables and fare costs in english?

The real answer is it varies due to weather conditions, traffic and things that I totally do not understand.
Check out this web site for all things that have to do with trains.
http://www.seat61.com/
Its one of the better sites on the net for travelers.
here is the link to the Vietnam section
http://www.seat61.com/Vietnam.htm
here is a blurb.

Why you should travel by train in Vietnam…

You’d be crazy not to. Vietnam’s air-conditioned trains are safe, comfortable & inexpensive, the ideal way for independent travellers to get around and see Vietnam at ground level. The train journeys are an experience in themselves, and become an integral part of your visit to Vietnam. You might even meet some Vietnamese people. Inexperienced travellers often mistakenly think they’ll save time by using internal flights – in fact, an overnight train ride from Hanoi to Hué or Danang is not only far more of an experience (and cheaper) than a flight, the train actually saves time compared to flying, because the train leaves Hanoi city centre in the evening and arrives in Hué city centre next morning. Flying takes 4 or 5 hours out of your sightseeing day in getting to a remote airport, checking in, taking the flight itself, collecting your bags and getting back into the city centre. And the sleeper trains saves a hotel bill, too. And what’s the rush anyway?

Air-conditioned trains with sleepers and on-board catering link Hanoi, Hué, Danang, Nha Trang, and Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). Hoi An has no station, but it’s just 30km by bus or taxi from Danang. There are also trains from Hanoi to Halong & Haiphong (for Halong Bay) and Hanoi to Lao Cai (for Sapa).
that should give you and idea about the site.

How long should i stay in saigon, nha trang,da nang and hanoi?

Files under Nha Trang | 2 Comments

Il be enjoying the nightlife (pubs and clubs) and maybe see a few sights.?

Thanks

Good night life, food, shopping and everything else in Saigon. Also a good place to stage from for The Mekong delta, Mui ne. and many other close tourist attractions. If you just want to stay in the city… 2 or three days. with time to explore around at least a week.
Nha Trang, Many people are avoiding Nha Trang these days due to its increasing crime, filth and the encroachment of large hotels right on the beach. However, the off shore islands have some of the best diving in the country and are pristine. I will leave it up to you on this one. I would not stop in Nha trang.
Danang has some good night life but is not a heavily touristed area. It is close to China Beach and Hoi An which many people consider their best stop in the country. Give Hoi an and danang at least 3 to 4 days and you will probably end up spending more time. Many do.
Hanoi is my favorite big city in country. the old quarter is charming and there are many parks and lakes etc. the night life is not as frenetic as Saigon but there is enough to keep you interested. Great food and proximity to Sapa and Halong Bay. a week maybe, but these things are difficult to quantify for other people. If you just want to party you can cut back on time. Hoi An is not a party town until the summer when the beach clubs open for some serious sun and fun.
Have fun. take your time. and good luck
