Vietnam holiday advice needed?

Files under Vietnam Holiday | 8 Comments

I'm 26 and I'm going to Vietnam at the end of August for two weeks with a friend. We're both female, Australians. She's 33. I need some advice about where the MUST GO places are. We generally want to have a fairly relaxing holiday. Any suggestions? We fly in and out of Ho Chi Minh City, but are happy to travel if someone can suggest somewhere good. I personally would love to have a few days lying on a beautiful beach. Good nightlife would be great too!
Thanks in advance.

if you like beaches and are in Saigon, then Coco Beach resort is the place for you. It's within driving distance of the city and is located at Mui Noc close to Phan Thiet. I beautiful stretch of golden sand in a wonderful setting. http://www.cocobeach.net/

Someone else mentioned Nha Trang — just chose your beach carefully, some areas may be prone to discarded needles. Otherwise the city is fun.

Of course the day trip from Saigon to Cu Chi and then the fascinating Cao Dai temple at Tay Ninh is also a must do.

My digital camera takes pictures with a greenish hue. How do I fix this?

Files under Hue | 50 Comments

I've got a Kodak DX3700 digital camera that takes pictures fine, and, in fact, the pictures look great on the PC. But when printed at the printer, they seem to have a slightly greenish hue (slight, but still there.) Any idea how something like that can be corrected for future pictures taken with the camera?
Thanks.
Featured question!!! Yikes!

There are several possible reasons why the picture looks green It is either:
1) the lighting when you took the photo
2) the camera white balance was off
3) your monitor settings are slightly off
4) the printer calibration is off
5) the ink colors are low

If all of your prints from any source look greenish, then it is probably not 1 or 2. You might test your monitor by downloading an image from somewhere else and printing it. If the print looks like the monitor colors, then the monitor calibration is probably not at fault. If the print is still greenish then it might be the printer or ink. If it only happens when you print pictures you took with your camera then it may be related to the camera, software or printer. Check the print driver for information on tweaking the color profiles available to the printer. You might also want to print a few pictures on a Kodal Picture Maker kiosk to see if they are also green-tinted.

The newer kodak software, the Easyshare software (currently in version 6), has a special printing software plugin called "One Touch to Better Pictures" (OTTBP). It basically tweaks your printer to work with Kodak's color science and Kodak paper. If I remember correctly, your camera came with Kodak Picture Software (KPS), and I think this earlier software lacks the plugin. This software can also enhance images and may remove green-tinting if the color is in the image itself.

I recommend going to http://www.kodak.com and downloading the newest version of Kodak's EasyShare software and then installing the OTTBP profile for your printer. You should also download and install the newest printer driver for your printer. If that does not correct the problem then you may have an issue with the printer or camera.

What cruise is good and cheap in Halong Bay, Vietnam?

Files under Halong Bay | 2 Comments

There are so many cruise to choose from to tour around Halong bay. We intend to take a 3D2N package but don't know which one to choose from. Anyone tried any cruise or is there a website where i can get the best deal?

Try Buffalo tours. They were voted the best tour company in 2007 but they are a little pricy. the boats only hold 16 people and I think that they run $150 for the trip. To pricy? the best way to find a cheap tour is just to talk to your hotel tour desk in Hanoi. good luck!

Where is Hollister available in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam?

the exact address of where it is and where can you find abercrombie in ho chi minh?

No, I'm sorry. Not an official one anyway. If you go to the town markets such as Saigon Square or Saigon Market ect. ect. the venders sell fake hollister and abercrombie clothes. Well most are fake anyway, some are actually real because hollister and abercrombie makes their clothes in vietnam and the workers sometimes can take the defects and sell them or some employers actually steal them from the factory. But thats about all I know. Also, if you buy them I think you can bargain for a lower price. Good luck. =)

What about your experiences travelling in Vietnam? Tried Thanh Vinh Travel?

Files under Vietnam Travel | 3 Comments

I recently traveled in Vietnam and had a great time. I know lots of other tourists that had bad experiences. Please tell me about your experiences. I used Thanh Vinh Travel and they treated me really well. Anybody else found a good travel agency for Vietnam?

My travel agent in 1967 was the U.S. Marine Corps. Even during the war, I thought it was a very beautiful country.

I was a Navy Corpsman (medic) assigned to the Marines. During the last 3 months I was stationed with a small group of Marines in a village near Hoi An. I met a lot of fine local people there.

Where to get Sapa Plum tree?

Files under Sapa | 1 Comment

Does anyone know where I can get a start or a plant of a Sapa plum tree. The plums are about the size of a jumbo olive, very dark purple, and the inside is dark purple and the juice almost looks like blood. They are the best I have ever had, and our tree died. thanks

The Sapa plum is often called a cherry plum. A cross between the Western Sand Cherry (or P. Besseyi) and Sultan Japanese Plum (or P. Salicia). The fruit is dark blue with glossy skin and deep red wine flesh. Ripens about a week later than the Opata.

This nursery carries the Sapa cherry plum.
