I recently got a job offer in Vietnam. I would like to know how much I need if I’m staying with my wife?
Aslo I would like to get an apartment form good area.
Haven’t ben to Hanoi ye but people report quite the same from over there
we stay in HCMC (Saigone) for 4 weeks now, the rent for a really good serviced room incl.linen, cleaning, electricity and high speed internet is 250$, average taxi fares are aroung 2 $ a 10-15min trip, walking is easy as the inner HCMCis not to big, for good local food at a reasonable reataurants you pay around 3$ p person, the good local beer is 0,50 $ at the restaurant, if you buy yr food from foodstalls it doesn’t even take 1 $ p person.
At the supermaerket wine$ beer is absolutely cheap in comparison to other asian countries, a good aussie or californian bottle of wine around 7-10$,the local beer around 0,30 $
Don’t worry to much about your budget, you’ll ge along after you paid the airfare.
and how do you get the visa if you need one?
I do not expect votes for my answer, but I needed to say something due to some very misleading information given by another person..
If you are from Australia and arrive at the airport without a visa, you will not get one there at all, but will be deported. Only certain few countries (Australia is not one of them) can obtain a visa at the airport.
Other posters have given you the links to the Vietnam Embassy in Australia. Just go to those links. The website is not clear in respect there are other types of visa to the standard 4 week entry tourist visa. There are multiple entry visas for a slightly higher fee that are good for up to a year. Within Vietnam, you can get one for up to 3 years if you go to the right agent.
One of the World Heritage one must see!!!
