Hanoi Rocks are supporting Wednesday 13 and this is footage from their Halloween gig at the Astoria in London that rocked, the whole place was electrified. Such a shame they have decided to end it, it’s like the end of an era. They should be filling stadiums and arenas by now, what a cruel hand fate has delt them. This song is Up Around The Bend.

Which is the best city in Vietnam to study a teaching English language course (CELTA), Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi?

Files under Hanoi Travel | 4 Comments

I have decided to study a CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) in Vietnam and would like to hear people’s opinion, from people who have either travelled there and find one of the cities more appealing, or who have studied this course in one of the cities.

Most people would say Ho Chi Minh City because it’s much larger than Hanoi and it’s much more business-oriented and therefore more opportunities to teach English. However, exactly because of that thinking that you should choose Hanoi. Why? You’ll have much less competition there. Hanoi is the capital and there are always people who need to learn English there. But because most CELTA graduates flock to HCMC, there’s actually a shortage of teachers in Hanoi. Take the road less traveled and you’ll be rewarded!

Vegan travelling to Hanoi?

Files under Hanoi Travel | 2 Comments

Has anyone done this? Can you reccomend any food options for me?

Viet Nam has a very diverse culture. I spent two months there and in Taiwan. With you being a vegan, you will have to get used to the markets. If you can get past the freshly killed meats and fish that will literally surround you at every turn, the vegetables are fresh and picked daily. You will be able to find many vegetarian options, but vegan will be very hard to find if you stray the least bit from veggies and fruits. Tofu abounds there as well, but stay away from something called "stinky Tofu" It is as the name suggests.

Once again, ask around for vegan options

I’m an omnivore, but still asked about different options and the ladies at the markets kind of knew about vegetarian, but for the most part had no idea what vegan was because meat is a huge part of their diet over there. the closer you stay to the center of Hanoi, the better your chances of finding what you want.
